Hello, I am Theresa de Oliveira Cardosoand did my internship in a company located in the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon.
The company I worked in is called ‘FMF – Ferramentas’ and mainly resells tools.
During my working hours, starting at 9 am and ending at 6 pm, I most of the time translated technical documents from English into Portuguese and sometimes also texts from English into German. Because I practically always had to do the same task - translating - it got a bit boring after a time but it was still a valuable experience.
Kaliméra! My name is Maike HannemannI'm 18 years old and I did my internship at the A&E Elpida Ranch in Rhodes/Greece, which offers horse rides for tourists. As I do horse riding in my free time, that seemed to be an interesting choice.
And indeed I mostly worked with horses there, for example I did riding or ground work, and sometimes I also had to take care of the other animals or did office work like modifying texts in flyers. There were times when I was fully responsible for the whole farm operation because my boss was absent, which was quite a challenge for me. But also, I must unfortunately say, there were long periods in which I had almost nothing to do as the main holiday season had not started yet.
I lived in a little accommodation which was 3 km away from the ranch. Every evening I was alone after I went home from work and, especially after a day at the ranch without any human contact, that was often quite frustrating.
All in all my internship was not really a positive experience but in a way it was okay because I gained a big amount of self-confidence, resilience and assertiveness.
Skadi Hessler:I did my Internship in Chile at a beach bar which is located in a small village with the name Pichilemu. I had to work 4 hours each day. It was an amazing time! I made many new friends and also learned a lot about myself during this six-week-internship - for example that I don't have to be shy and that I don't have to have prejudices.
Hello my name is Zeinab Hodroj and I did my internship in my home country, Lebanon.
Lebanon is a very nice country, rich in natural views and in typical traditional things that reflect the people there and their way of living.
I worked at a design firm that manufactures 3D boards, building signs, plexi boxes, etc.
It was very exciting to see how they design and manufacture these boards. As I helped the assistant there in writing and receiving emails and telephone calls, I have learned a lot about how to deal with clients and what type of designs they mostly order. I have also improved my writing skills and in particular how to write business letters requiring a formal style.
My whole family lives in Lebanon so I stayed at my in-laws and visited my other relatives.
I was very happy about having the opportunity to spend time with my friends again and at the same time to get more familiar with the working system in Lebanon and am now able to compare it and know the difference to working systems in Germany.
My Trip to Dubai
Hello my name is Jinän IktiarI did my internship at the art fair Art Dubai for one week and at Wanders Wagner Architects in Dubai for the four remaining weeks.
At the art fair my work task was to scan the tickets and invitation cards of the guests at the entrances. We were 200+ volunteers and got along with each other very well. The fair was a nice place to meet new people and make new friends. It was a great week which passed quickly.
Wanders Wagner Architects at Dubai Design District (WWA) is a company with eight employees and two bosses who both are Germans and have been living there for 15 years. One of my tasks was working on a BOQ (Bill of Quantity) in Excel. It was a recent task my colleague was working on so I joined her.
I had to work for five hours a day so I had a lot of time off, in which I explored Dubai.
Dubai is an amazing city. The architecture is really insane and it does not take you a long time to get used to the lifestyle they have in the UAE. A lot of different people from different races live there and it was a great experience to see how many different cultures can live together in peace.
I enjoyed my time there a lot and definitely look forward to going back one day. Dubai has won my heart!
Me llamo Katharinay tengo 18 años.
Hello my name is Sarah Ortand I did my internship at Queenswell Infant and Nursery School in Whetstone/ London and would like to tell you something about one morning in an English primary school.
The class I worked with was from Year 1 and was called "Hazel Class".
Before the lessons started, the teacher often had something to do for me, for example sticking some work sheets into the student's books. The students came in at 9:00 am. They packed their things away and sat down. The teacher did the register to see if anyone was missing.
First the students had Phonics. I had to help the children with exercises in phonics when they had to work independently or in partner work. Frequently those were games where the students had to pronounce the sounds which they were learning.
After Phonics they all normally sat on the carpet and the teacher explained something regarding the subject they had in that lesson. Usually they first had to do a job independently on their whiteboards, where I could help them. After a few minutes they talked about the job together and compared the results and the teacher summarised the main points on the board.
After that the children got the next job and went to their tables to do it in partner work and I could go around and help some students who needed support. Afterwards I washed the fruits because the students had Fruit time. After their Fruit time they always had 15 minutes Playtime, where they went out to play in the schoolyard. In this time I had a break.
Thereafter they had the next lesson. It usually started on the carpet because they had to talk about the topic together and the teacher had to explain something. Each class had a whiteboard, so they often watched videos on the Internet. After a while the students got a job to do at their tables. I often explained the topic one more time to students who had not understood it yet or I answered questions concerning the job they had to do.
If everybody did the job without any problems, I stuck some already edited worksheets in the work books or in the folders of the students. Once the students had finished their job, the teacher corrected their results. At the same time the students read one book on their own on the carpet and some children read the book out 5179to me.
At Lunchtime I had a break for one hour. Often I went out to the schoolyard to look after the children because the students played outside after lunch.
Hello! My name is Carina Riffel.I did my internship in Brandon, Canada in a company named “Behlen”. Brandon is the second largest city in the province of Manitoba. I lived on a farm with my cousin and his family. He has a wife and two sons. Because of that I had the wonderful opportunity to live so close to the forest and got to experience the beauty of the Canadian wilderness and saw many animals I have never seen before. His wife has her own decoration business but sadly she was not working while I was there so I had to do my internship in the company my cousin works for. After a long day of work, I always enjoyed spending some time with the children. It was nice to see my cousin again and to meet his family for the first time. I got to experience a culture completely different to my own. The people around me were so kind and open. I would end up having conversations with strangers in stores and on the street. This is something that never happened to me in Germany. Canada was a great experience. I met new people and improved my English skills.
Hi, my name is Doreen Scharberth.
I did my internship in New York City and worked at CityKinder. CityKinder is a German-speaking lifestyle and community platform for families and parents-to-be in the greater New York area. They offer a wide range of events, groups, classes and seminars.
I lived in Manhattan directly at Central Park. In my free-time I had enough opportunities to explore the city by myself and saw the ‘city that never sleeps’ by day and night.
Together with my host-family I also went skiing in the Catskills and that was really fun. I got to improve my English skills, which was a great side effect.
New York is an amazing city and will always stay in my heart.
The internship was a really great experience and one of the best things I have done in my life.
HEY, MY NAME IS GRETA SCHORR!I stayed at Colorado Springs, USA, with a lovely host family. I immediately fell in love with Colorado and its people, it is a very beautiful state with a lot to see.
During the week I worked at an elementary school with the first graders, this was an easy way to practice my English skills. Even if you may not think so, they have an absolutely different culture, and what I noticed was that we have an absolutely wrong picture of the American inhabitants. Also I visited Doreen S. in New York! It was an awesome experience to see both sides of the USA, the city life and the country life.
For everyone who wants to see the US, I can just say that it was a great adventure and that it is worth to see both sides of it. Personally the country life was my favorite part and I would recommend you to make your own experience.
¡Hola! Me llamo Christina Sidory tengo 22 años. Hice mis prácticas en Salamanca en Epaña. Trabajé en la recepción en un hotel de cuatro estrellas. Se llama ‘‘Gran Hotel Corona Sol‘‘.
Mis colegas estuven my simpáticas y reímos mucho.
I worked one week at the Art Dubai fair 2017 and four weeks at Wanders Wagner Architects and stayed in a hotel. In Dubai, I made a lot of new friends, learned a lot and also improved my English skills. My work was not so hard but it was funny. The people there were so friendly and helped me whenever they could.
Hello, my name is Anika Stanczak and I did my internship in Dubai.
Dubai is such a beautiful country and I cannot explain how it is possible to fall in love with it so quickly.
It was the most beautiful time and the best experience I have ever had.
Hi! My name is Leonaand I did my internship in Barbados – a wonderful island in the Caribbean. I worked for Pangroove Elegant Events, which organizes events such as weddings.
During my internship, I had a great balance between working at the office and setting everything up for the event locally. Barbados is completely different than the European countries but it is really exciting to experience a different culture.
One of the best things of Barbados is, that you can travel around the island for BBD $ 2, which corresponds to € 1. The people are one of the friendliest I have ever experienced. They are always pleased to help you. I would love to go back to the island and I would definitely recommend an internship there.
